Moving around the court
The main points in 30 seconds
Nikolai Ukk shows how to move from the base stance to every part of the court, and how to drill it without a shuttle.
- Front right corner: first move with the left foot, reach the racket towards the shuttle, deep lunge on the right. Keep the left arm and leg towards the centre to recover at once.
- Common mistakes at the net: losing balance, dropping the arms and turning your back to the opponent.
- Mid court: a step or a lunge on the right leg; if it's not enough, a lunge with a small extra step. Avoid turning your back.
- Rear court: a cross step, turn the body, raise the arms while moving, hit at the highest point, then a scissor landing.
- Drill it as shadow footwork without a shuttle: slowly to one or two corners first, then faster to all. Never stand on your heels in the centre.
