Backhand grip: don't squeeze
The main points in 30 seconds
A squeezed racket doesn't work: a loose grip, two leading fingers and a racket head that goes forward.
- Don't squeeze: the racket rests in the hand and is gripped only just before contact. A tight grip brings in the shoulder.
- Thumb and index finger lead the racket; the other three fingers only hold it.
- Don't bend the wrist forward: it only returns as far as it went back.
- After the take-back the racket stays behind, the body turns to the shuttle, and the racket goes forward by its own weight.
- Press the thumb into the handle only for a straight backhand drive; hit the backhand clear with a loose hand.
