Fingers, not the wrist
The main points in 30 seconds
Why the fingers, not the wrist or shoulder, drive the racket — and how that fixes net errors and length.
- Don't fully straighten the arm, or the shoulder takes over. True for forehand and backhand.
- Don't hit everything to the back line: learn to dose power — a clear to the service line first, then further.
- Hold the racket with the thumb and index finger; the other three fingers only support it.
- The hit is 'press and release': a relaxed racket fires forward from the fingers, not the wrist.
- To stay off the net, the racket goes forward, not the shoulder. The body turn is what matters.
